Details

The oven hot surface igniter receives electrical current to glow white-hot, which safely ignites the gas passing through the burner tube for bake or broil functions. As the igniter ages, its internal resistance changes, causing it to glow weakly or stop drawing enough amperage to signal the gas safety valve to open. Common symptoms of failure include an oven that will not heat, a burner that takes an excessively long time to light, clicking sounds without combustion, or a noticeable gas odor when the heating cycle is turned on.
