Details
This is the OEM defrost thermostat (bi-metal limiter) used in many GE and Hotpoint refrigerators. During the defrost cycle, it senses evaporator coil temperature and opens at a threshold (approx. 140 °F) to cut power to the heater. If the thermostat is stuck open, the defrost heater never runs and frost accumulates; if stuck closed, it could allow overheating. Replacing it restores proper defrost control and protects the system.
