The WP8557403 is a genuine OEM hi-limit thermostat and inlet thermistor assembly designed for select Whirlpool, Maytag, Kenmore and other family-brand dryers. It monitors incoming air temperature and interrupts the heating element circuit if the air becomes too hot — protecting the dryer and laundry load from damage. Symptoms of a failing unit include: no heat due to safety trip, dryer cycles very quickly without heating, or dryer becomes excessively hot. Installing this OEM assembly restores safe temperature regulation and proper heating control.
